First things first: don't miss our special Steamboat Stringband Harvest Party, which features The Pine Hearts, The Lowest Pair, and The Last Revel!

And if that weren't exciting enough - this bunch has made a new bluegrass album!

A collaboration was born in 2016 when Nate and Jackie of Daniels and Baker joined the Olympia music community via Chicago, Illinois. Inspired by many of the same classic bluegrass roots, the duo became frequent guests and natural jam buddies with Olympia's resident bluegrass pickers, the Oly Mountain Boys.

The potential to make a dual album, in the spirit of Steve Earle's The Mountain featuring the Del McCoury band, became too enticing to pass up. But touring schedules didn't leave much time. So they all got in the studio and brought these tunes to life in live takes.

The Oly Mountain Boys bring full traditional bluegrass band power. Daniels and Baker bring innovative arranging and sharp vocal harmonies. And everybody picks up a storm.

Nate and Jackie have traveled on to Nashville, Tennessee now, so we've called in our good friends Ky Burt and The Hollerbodies from Portland to help us release this album at Rhythm & Rye on November 19th! And we'll have it in hand when we head to Seattle on November 30th for a show at the Nectar with Cascade Crescendo and Sourwood Stringband!

Oct 29 | Prosperity Grange Hall, Olympia - Steamboat Stringband Harvest Party featuring Last Revel, The Lowest Pair, and The Pine Hearts!)
Nov 3 | Cascadia Homebrew, Olympia - Brewgrass Thursday with Luke Callen and Dixie Highway
Nov 19 | Rhythm & Rye, Olympia - CD RELEASE with Ky Burt and The Hollerbodies
Nov 30 | Nectar Lounge, Seattle with Cascade Crescendo and Sourwood Stringband

Plenty of chances to work some bluegrass into your summer fun in August!

We're playing at some great hometown Oly events - the Thurston County Fair, Olympia Brewfest, and the Blueberry Bash.

And some great Oly venues - like Northwest Beerwerks and Cascadia Homebrew for Brewgrass Thursday.

And Oly's finest music venue, Rhythm and Rye. The Grand Oly Opry is taking a break this year, but Tassel Tuesday with Rock Candy Burlesque will fill the void. Friday August 12th it's a full night of pickin with the Warren G. Hardings from Seattle. And Thursday August 25th we host Steep Ravine from Santa Cruz, California as "Pine Mountain" with Joe Capoccia!

And if you like your bluegrass straight from North Carolina, don't miss a chance to see hard drivin Carolina string band TOWN MOUNTAIN with us and the Jack Dwyer Band at the Nectar Lounge!

This year's Steamboat Stringband Jamboree (May 6th & 7th) is right around the corner (get your tickets!) And we're getting you in the mood by turning the whole week into an excuse to play bluegrass.

Fun starts Tuesday, May 3rd at The Nectar Lounge in Seattle for A Night of Bluegrass and Front Porch Americana, featuring The Last Revel (Minneapolis) and Sweet Lou's Sour Mash (Seattle). Thursday May 5th it's Brewgrass at Cascadia Homebrew, where we'll be joined by Joe Capoccia (Olympia) and Montgomery Brown (Austin). Then a bunch of Northwest stringbands descend upon Olympia for the weekend, including The Student Loan, Wild Rabbit, The Blackberry Bushes, Left Coast Country, Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons, our co-hosts The Pine Hearts, and many more!

We're not resting up afterwards, either. We'll be back in Seattle for a Bluegrass & Beer benefit for Northwest Harvest (May 14th). And we've got some big trips east planned! First to play a Rainshadow Running race finish line (May 21st-22nd) and then for two shows in Idaho (June 2nd & 3rd, John's Alley in Moscow, and Eichardt's in Sandpoint!)

The best part of pickin bluegrass is all the friends you make doing it. We're teaming up with all sorts of folks this spring - some new friends and old ones too.

Next Thursday (March 24th) at Rhythm & Rye we get to help introduce Oly to John Craigie, a witty and entertaining folk singer who we first saw when he took the top prize at the Northwest String Summit Band Competition. At our monthly Brewgrass first Thursdays at Cascadia Homebrew (April 7th), we're teaming up with Ky Burt and Sugar Still. On April 8th, meet Josh's friends from the "violin" world when we play Pints Barn for Symphony on Tap, a benefit for the Olympia Symphony Orchestra. For Artswalk at Rhythm and Rye (April 22nd) it's Oly favorites Rooster Crow and new friends Cascade Crescendo

Then we get to kick off the summer festival season with the 2nd ANNUAL STEAMBOAT STRINGBAND JAMBOREE! We've just announced the 2016 lineup - lots of friends from last year are coming back, and new ones are joining us! Mark your calendar for May 5-6th and join us again at Olympia's Prosperity Grange Hall on Steamboat Island Road. Follow the Steamboat on Facebook or Twitter for the announcement when tickets go on sale!

Looking back on 2015, we're thankful for every single time we got to see your smiling faces at Rhythm & Rye, or a grange hall, or one of the many festivals and benefits where we got to share music with you. And we're especially thankful for our Northwest stringband community and the success of the very first Steamboat Stringband Jamboree! We're going to keep working this year to make it a destination for Americana music lovers in the region.

We're kicking off more big plans for 2016 right away THIS THURSDAY! We think Olympia has been hungry for a regular Americana music night for a long time, and we're teaming up with KAOS Community Radio and Cascadia Homebrew to make it happen! First Thursday = BREWGRASS at Cascadia Homebrew! Our first lineup is pretty amazing - Oly favorite Kendl Winter will play a set, and so will our Seattle buds The Warren G. Hardings!

In other news, tickets are now available for our trio show at the Gig Harbor Boat Shop. Plus we're making our Laurelthirst debut in Portland with The Aeroplane Band, which features an all star lineup playing some good ol John Hartford! And The Student Loan returns to Rhythm & Rye!

Happy new year y'all!!

We added a few new cool shows in the next few months we wanted to let you know about! Come out to the Union Square Deli, or benefit some great programs at Eastside Urban Farm & Garden next weekend! If you love music at Rhythm & Rye, come meet Corey Doerscher and a great mando/fiddle duo, Daniels & Baker as we pick all night long! If you're up Tacoma way, come see us with Barleywine Revue or check out the Oly Mountain Trio at the Gig Harbor Boat Shop! If you're down south, come to the Laurelthirst!

Thanks for your support!

After a great summer, settling in for October means grange halls, harvests, and hometown shows! We'll kick off the month as the featured band at the Adna Grange hall jam. Next weekend we're welcoming Bellingham's Polecat to Rhythm and Rye! And before the month is out we'll keep the Steamboat Stringband Jamboree spirit alive with a harvest party at the Prosperity Grange Hall!

Meanwhile, we're celebrating one year since we released our Kickstarter-funded bluegrass concept album White Horse. Thanks to everyone who made it possible! To commemorate the anniversary and celebrate the artists and writers who contributed, we've made the ENTIRE 68 PAGE BOOKLET available for FREE download from our website!

We've been so busy enjoying (and founding!) summer festivals we've had no time for this computer stuff!

Seriously, the first annual Steamboat Stringband Jamboree was completely awesome, and if you need proof, THERE'S VIDEO!! We can't wait to do it again next year! And we just got back from jammin all night at last weekend's Northwest String Summit!

Now we're hittin the road to Long Beach this weekend, settlin in for some great hometown shows in August, and heading out for a Columbia Gorge brewery weekend in September!

And we've got a cool new merch item available on Bandcamp - Oly Mountain Boys trucker hats! Available in royal blue, navy blue, green, black, red, and purple! Throw in a few Bluegrass is Sexy stickers while you're at it!

We just wrapped up a huge celebration of Rhythm and Rye's first year with Hillstomp, plus a night of back-to-back sets at the Capitol Food and Wine Festival and the Olympia Acoustic Festival. And we say, let the festivities continue!
